The job
Steel erection is bought by main contractors, project managers and quantity surveyors. They do not browse. They arrive with a set of drawings and four questions: what do you put up, do you work to the standard the engineer signs against, how do you price, and where do the drawings go.
Most erection crews answer that with a phone number and a Facebook page. Some have a template site that says quality and safety a lot and never names a standard. Either way the contractor rings someone else.
The brief here was one page that answers all four questions before the phone rings. Auckland wide, plus the upper North Island for the right job. Nothing between the reader and the quote.
What got built
Nick built it as one long page in the order a contractor reads. Services first, written like scope lines, not slogans: structural steel erection, rigging and machine moves, lift planning, mezzanines and platforms, alterations and strengthening, dismantle and removal.
Then the process, enquiry to handover in five steps. Read the drawings and walk the site. Agree the method and lift plan with the main contractor. Erect in sequence with temporary bracing as it goes. Plumb, line and tension. Hand over the paperwork so the engineer can sign off. A recent work section sits in the middle, framed the way a contractor judges a crew and ready for real site photos.
The safety section names names: AS/NZS 5131 for the erection, NZS 3404 for the steel, harness work at height, tagged and inspected rigging gear. And the line that carries the whole site: lift plan first. Nothing lifts without one. That is not a design flourish. It is the sales pitch, because a crane sitting idle costs the contractor money and everyone on site knows it.
The decisions that mattered
No rates on the page, on purpose. A rate on a website is a number someone will hold you to on the wrong job. Instead the page explains the three ways a job gets priced: fixed price against final drawings, day works when the scope is still opening up, schedule of rates for repeat work. Then it lists what moves the price and what a quote includes, so the enquiry that arrives is one the crew can actually answer.
The quote form works with no mailbox connected. Fill it in and it builds the enquiry as an email you send yourself, so nothing disappears into a form that goes nowhere. When the real inbox exists, it plugs straight in.
Nothing fake dressed up as real. The review slots hold written samples and the page says so. The photos are stock and labelled as stock until real site photos replace them. Every unconfirmed detail sits in a bracket marked to confirm. The page tells the truth about itself, which is what a straight-up crew would want anyway.
There is also an invoicing section, because the person approving payment matters as much as the person booking the crew. Monthly claims against work completed. Variations signed before the work starts. Purchase order numbers carried through every claim so the QS can match the paperwork without chasing.
What shipped
The whole site is one HTML file. No plugins, no build step, nothing to patch or maintain. It loads fast on a phone in a site office, which is where it will be read.
It is live now at a temporary address while the permanent domain gets bought. From there the crew drops in real site photos, real reviews with permission, and the confirmed company details, and the page becomes the crew's front door. The structure does not change. The placeholders were built to be swapped, not worked around.
