The problem
Every driveway opening is a different size, so a gate has no fixed price. The standard fix is a quote form. The customer types their measurements into a box, hits send, and waits for someone to do the sums and email back. While they wait, they are filling in the same form on three other sites, and whoever answers first has the inside running.
It is slow on the business side too. Every enquiry takes someone's time, and most of that time goes on running the same rules again: this wide, this high, this style, that colour, here is your number. Rules like that belong in code.
So the brief was blunt. A customer with a tape measure and five minutes should see a real price for their exact gate, in the colour they actually want, before anyone asks for a quote.
What got built
A Shopify store where the product page does the quoting. The customer measures their opening, enters the dimensions, picks a gate style, picks a powder coat colour, and gets a price for that gate. Their measurements, their colour, their number. The page shows the gate as they build it, by day or lit at night, so the decision gets made looking at the thing rather than a spec table.
Shopify carried the parts that are already solved: checkout, orders, hosting, the store plumbing. There was no reason to rebuild any of that. The effort went where Shopify stops. Standard product variants assume a fixed list of sizes, and a driveway does not care about your variant list. Pricing a gate from dimensions the customer typed in themselves was the part that had to be built.
One honest detail that matters: gates are still check measured on site before anything is fabricated. The online price is a real price for the stated size, and the site measure confirms the details before metal gets cut. Nothing rides on a customer's tape measure alone.
Getting the colours right
The palette is real Dulux powder coat: Ironsand, Titania, Gunmetal Kinetic, Scoria and Flax Pod. Real names, real finishes, shown properly. That is harder than it sounds. Ironsand is a deep charcoal, and with lazy colour handling on the web it drifts to silver. That got fixed properly: verified Dulux colour values, correct colour handling, worked over until the gate on screen read like the finish it is named after.
It matters because colour is the emotional half of the buy. Measurements are logic. Colour is what the customer stands at the kerb and looks at for the next twenty years. A swatch that lies on screen turns into a complaint the day the gate arrives, and a colour chart full of finishes nobody can order is worse. Every colour on the page is a coating the gate actually gets.
Where the studio's 3D gate came from
If you have spun the 3D gate on the Tea Break Studio site, it came out of this job. Building the store meant learning the product properly: frames, rails, panel styles, hinges, how two leaves meet cleanly in the middle. The model carries that knowledge, which is why it reads like a gate and not a grey box with slats.
And to be straight about whose work this is: Hi Class Gates is a Jaeco Industries brand, and Nick built this in his role at Jaeco Industries. It is not a Tea Break Studio client job and it is not presented as one. It is on this site because it is the clearest picture of what Nick builds when a made-to-measure product gets treated like a real online product instead of a brochure with a form at the bottom.
