A lock site that checks your door before it takes your money.

Keyless Solutions is a smart lock specialist in east Auckland. They needed the full kit: a brand, the words, and a product site that could sell locks to people who have never measured a door. Nick built all three, including a fit checker that vets the buyer's door before any money changes hands.

The job

Keyless Solutions sells smart locks to east Auckland homes. Good hardware, hard category. A smart lock is not a phone case. Whether it works depends entirely on the door it goes into. Panel width, backset, the existing door prep. Get any of those wrong and the buyer is boxing the thing back up and asking for a refund.

The brief covered the lot. A brand from scratch, all the copy, and a full product site to carry the range. But the real problem sitting under the brief was simpler than that: how do you stop someone buying a lock that will never fit their door?

Most lock retailers do not touch that question. They list the hardware, bury the measurements in a downloadable spec sheet, and let the returns process mop up. Nick decided the site should answer it before the sale, not after.

The fit checker

The centrepiece of the site is a fit checker. The buyer answers a few questions about their door and gets a straight answer: this lock suits, this one does not. No guesswork, and no measuring after the courier has already been.

Under the hood it is measurement data, published properly. Every model on the site lists its panel sizes, backsets and door preps in the open. The narrowest panel any current model will take is 43mm, and the site says so up front. If your panel is narrower than that, you find out before you pay, not after.

The range is five models shipping now, with two more joining. The checker reads from the same product data as everything else on the site, so the incoming models slot in without a rebuild. Add the measurements and the checker knows about them. That was deliberate. A tool that needs a developer every time the range changes is a tool that dies in six months.

Brand and copy

Keyless Solutions started with nothing on the shelf. No logo, no voice, no site. Nick built the brand first, then wrote every word on the site to match it. One builder doing both means the brand and the copy never argue with each other.

The copy works for two readers at once. The homeowner who is sick of carrying keys and just wants to know the thing will work. And the buyer who already knows their backset and wants the numbers without a sales pitch in the way. Plain answers sit up front. Full measurements sit underneath. Nobody has to wade through the other reader's material.

Product pages follow the same rule. What the lock does, what doors it suits, what it will not do. Saying what a product will not do is rare in this category, and it is exactly what makes the fit checker believable.

What shipped

A complete product site: the brand, the copy, product pages across the range, and the fit checker wired through all of it. Five models ready to sell, two more staged to join them. Built, tested and handed over.

The domain goes live on the client's schedule. Their launch, their timing. That is how a handover should work, and it means what sits behind keylesssolutions.nz is finished work, not a work in progress.

Keyless Solutions is a paid client of Tea Break Studio. If you sell hardware where fit decides whether the sale sticks, this is the kind of job Nick builds well.
